Meta Ads Manager

Ads, audiences, and what they actually cost.

What it is

Meta Ads Manager is the control room for ads on Facebook and Instagram. You set who should see them, what they may cost, and what counts as success. An algorithm decides the rest, and that is the part most people underrate.

Where it holds

For products you have to see in order to want, it is still the cheapest route to reach. Nobody actively searches for the things that perform best there, which is precisely why the interruption works.

Second point: audience finding is now better than any setting you make by hand. Give the system good signals and you will beat someone who picks interests from a list.

Where it bites

The numbers in the report are not the numbers in your till. Since iOS restricted tracking, Meta estimates part of the attribution. Sometimes too high, sometimes too low, always confident. Anyone who only looks at Ads Manager regularly switches off working ads and lets bad ones run. The only way out is to hold the platform figure against something Meta does not own: actual revenue over the same period.

The system optimises exactly what you tell it and nothing beside it. Optimise for clicks and you get clickers. Optimise for purchases with too few purchases a month and you get nothing, because the learning phase never ends.

The automated modes show you less and less. The convenient campaign types take decisions off your hands, and with them the chance to learn from those decisions. For small budgets that is usually still right, you should just know you are feeding a black box.

What it looks like when it runs

Someone who looked and did not buy sees it once more, where they already are. Someone who did buy sees what goes with it instead. And when a date is coming up on which something starts, the ad reminds rather than sells. The value is less in catching new people than in bringing back the ones who already showed interest, and that is by far the cheaper half.

What to think about before choosing it

Ads do not repair an offer. If the page does not sell, ads only buy you a more expensive proof that it does not sell. And work out beforehand what a customer is worth to you. Without that figure, every discussion about click price is guesswork.
